Tourist stream

The Tourist stream of the Visitor visa, Sublclass 600 allows Applicants to visit Australia for holidays/vacations and stay for 3 - 12 months, and engage in the following activities:

  • Visit friends
  • Sightseeing and Tourist activities
  • Cruise around Australia

Note that you can't visit Australia for Work, Business or for Medical treatment. Also, you need to prove that you are a 'Genuine Visitor' and will not overstay your trip, not get involved in work and return back to your country at the end of your visit. As part of your supporting documents, you would need to show that you have funds available to pay for your trip and accommodation, costs while in Australia, and a return flight.

Business Visitor stream

The Business Visitor stream of the Visitor visa, Sublclass 600 allows Applicants to visit Australia for short Business trips and stay for 3 months, and engage in the following activities:

  • Business or Employment investigations and checks
  • Negotiate and sign Contracts/Agreements
  • Guidance regarding Project Installation
  • Participate in Conference, Summit, Seminar or Trade Fair
  • Official Government visit activities

Note that you can't visit Australia for Work purposes, but business visitor activities are permitted. Evidence must be provided that you are a 'Genuine Visitor' and will not overstay your trip, not get involved in work and return back to your country at the end of your visit. As part of your supporting documents, you would need to show that you have funds available to pay for your trip and accommodation, costs while in Australia, and a return flight.

Approved Destination Status stream

The Approved Destination Status stream of the Visitor visa, Sublclass 600 is meant for citizens from the People's Republic of China (PRC) to travel to Australia:

  • Part of a Tour Group
  • Tour is arranged by an Approved Travel Agent

Note that you can't visit Australia for Work purposes. Evidence must be provided that you are part of a Tour Group and a 'Genuine Visitor' and will not overstay your trip, not get involved in work and return back to your country at the end of your visit. As part of your supporting documents, you would need to show that you have funds available to pay for your trip and accommodation, costs while in Australia, and a return flight.

Frequent Traveller stream

The Frequent Traveller stream of the Visitor visa, Sublclass 600 allows Applicants to visit Australia for short Business, Tourism or Family Visits trips and stay for up to 3 months, but this stream can be granted for up to 10 years. Citizens of the following countries are eligiible to apply for the Frequent Traveller stream:

  • The People's Republic of China (PRC)
  • Brunei
  • Cambodia
  • Philippines
  • Laos
  • Indonesia
  • Malaysia
  • Singapore
  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Timor Leste

Note that you can't visit Australia for Work purposes, but business, tourism and family visitor activities are permitted. Evidence must be provided that you are a 'Genuine Visitor' and will not overstay your trip, not get involved in work and return back to your country at the end of your visit. As part of your supporting documents, you would need to show that you have funds available for all your trip costs and you will need to provide Biometrics at an Australian Biometric Collection Centre (ABCC) before applying.

Sponsored Family stream

The Sponsored Family stream of the Visitor visa, Sublclass 600 allows Applicants to visit Australia, who are sponsored and invited by their family members, and stay for 3-12 months, and do the following activities:

  • Visit Family and friends
  • Take a Holiday
  • Go on a Cruise
  • Study a course or undergo training for up to 3 months

Note that under this stream, you can't visit Australia for Work or Business purposes, but must visit Australia as a Tourist Visitor only, and have a Sponsor. Evidence must be provided that you are a 'Genuine Visitor' and will not overstay your trip, not get involved in work and return back to your country at the end of your visit, and provide evidence of financial capacity.

First Working Holiday Visa, Subclass 417

The Working Holiday visa, Subclass 417 is intended for young Applicants, with no dependents, between the Ages of 18 - 30 years (or up to 35 years for Citizens of certain countries) and allows them to engage in the following activities in Australia:

  • Short term work- up to 6 months for 1 employer
  • Study a course for up to 4 months
  • Multiple entry travel to and from Australia
  • Undertake 3 months of 'Specified work' to be eligible for a Seond Working Holiday visa

Citizens of the following are eligible to apply for the Working Holiday visa:

  • Belgium
  • Canada - up to 35 years
  • Republic of Cyprus
  • Denmark - up to 35 years
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France - up to 35 years
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People's Republic of China
  • Republic of Ireland - up to 35 years
  • Italy - up to 35 years
  • Japan
  • Republic of Korea
  • Malta
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Sweden
  • Taiwan (other than an official or diplomatic passport)
  • The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including British National Overseas passport holders) - up to 35 years

Second Working Holiday Visa, Subclass 417

To be eligible for a Second Working Holiday visa, Subclass 417, Citizens of eligible countries must engage in 'Specified work' for up to 3 months or engage in 'specified work' for up to 6 months to apply for a Third Working Holiday visa. Note that since 1 July 2024, citizens of the United Kingdom do not need to meet the 'Specified work' requirement, in order to apply for a Seond or Third Working Holiday visa.

'Specified Work' - Approved Industries and Areas of Work

Outlined below are Industries and Regions/Areas of Australia, which are approved for 'specified work':

  • Tourism and hospitality in Northern or Remote and Very Remote Australia, from 22 June 2021
  • Plant and animal cultivation in regional Australia
  • Fishing and pearling in regional Australia
  • Tree farming and felling in regional Australia
  • Mining in regional Australia
  • Construction in regional Australia
  • Bushfire recovery work in declared bushfire-affected areas carried out after 31 July 2019
  • Recovery work in flood, cyclone, or other severe weather-affected areas carried out after 31 December 2021
  • Critical COVID-19 work in the healthcare and medical sectors anywhere in Australia, after 31 January 2020

First Work and Holiday Visa, Subclass 462

The Working Holiday visa, Subclass 417 is intended for young Applicants, with no dependents, with Tertiary qualifications, Government Letter of Support, Functional English ability, between the Ages of 18 - 30 years, and allows Applicants to engage in the following activities in Australia:

  • Short term work- up to 6 months for 1 employer
  • Study a course for up to 4 months
  • Multiple entry travel to and from Australia
  • Undertake 3 months of 'Specified work' to be eligible for a Seond Work and Holiday visa or undertake 6 months of 'Specified work' to be eligible for a Third Work and Holiday visa
